Buddy Walk
While the spring season has past and summer fun has just begun, the vision of October weather with possible frost on the pumpkin does not hold an appealing thought for some of us. And though this may be true, even now during these summer months there are those of us who are finding October to be a focal point among our daily routines. The reason? You ask. October is Down Syndrome Awareness month and DSANI will be hosting the 10th Annual Buddy Walk! It will take place the first weekend of October, on Saturday the 4th! The Buddy Walk has three primary goals:
To promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down Syndrome; To raise funds locally and nationally for education, research and advocacy programs; To enhance the position of the Down Syndrome community, enabling us to positively influence local and national policy and practice.
Though these are the primary goals, beyond these, the Buddy Walk enables the existence of DSANI. It allows DSANI to offer its members the option of participating in all of the wonderful activities that routinely take place. In short, all of DSANI’s individual social groups, parties, camps, seminars and events, have in some way been funded by proceeds raised from the Buddy Walk. Therefore, in addition to the need of participating in Buddy Walk fund raising, there is a genuine need for Buddy Walk Volunteers. You see, there would be no Walk without all the awesome volunteers. Our success is dependant upon volunteers and “it takes a village!”
